O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is United and American’s largest hub and the main gateway to Chicago, about 17 miles northwest of the Loop.
Four Terminals Linked by Train
ORD has four passenger terminals (1, 2, 3, and 5), connected by the free Airport Transit System train, plus an underground pedestrian tunnel between Terminals 1, 2, and 3 lined with a well-known neon light installation.
The Blue Line Is the Budget Option
The CTA Blue Line runs 24 hours a day between O’Hare and the Loop for a flat fare, taking about 40 to 45 minutes. The station sits below the main parking garage with direct access from Terminals 1, 2, and 3; Terminal 5 passengers take a short shuttle to reach it.
ORD vs. Midway
Chicago’s other airport, Midway (MDW), sits much closer to downtown on the South Side and is Southwest Airlines’ Chicago base, making it worth checking if your flight serves both airports.
