Where to stay in Las Vegas comes down mainly to Strip versus downtown, and how much walking you’re realistically willing to do once you’re there.
The Strip Looks Walkable, and Mostly Isn’t
Resort blocks on the Strip are enormous, walking from one end to the other can take well over an hour, and Nevada desert heat makes that walk unpleasant for much of the year. Staying centrally, and using the monorail or rideshare for anything beyond your immediate block, saves real time and discomfort.
Downtown Fremont Street Is a Different Trip
About 15 minutes north of the Strip, downtown Las Vegas and the Fremont Street Experience offer a cheaper, more compact, and notably older-Vegas alternative, walkable in a way the Strip is not.
Rates Spike Around Conventions, Not Just Weekends
Beyond the usual Friday and Saturday night premiums, major conventions like CES can push rates far above typical levels for that week specifically. Checking the convention calendar before booking can save a surprising amount.
Resort Fees Change the Real Price
Most Las Vegas hotels add a nightly resort fee on top of the room rate, sometimes $40 or more, that does not always show in the headline price. Factor this in when comparing properties.
